How to get started with caviar
Unravelling the world of gourmet food and caviar can be daunting when you just start out as a middle class person in this new and strange world. Personally as a chick who grew up on burgers and disco fries I know how challenging this task can be. The basics from knowing what spoon and fork to use can be picked up quickly, but sometimes being ready for the food itself can be a hard feat in itself.
Caviar, is a main dish in the fancy pants world of fine dining. When most people are asked if they know exactly what caviar is, they will most likely reply ' a fish egg delicacy' or something along that line. That is a very typical definition of such a complex dish, a definition that does not even begin to scratch its surface. There is a deep seeded history behind caviar that most of us have never even began to know.
When getting started with caviar you should know that it will be expensive and found anywhere in the world. It is made by sieving and salting fish roe (eggs) and has a grainy texture. Although some people like to indulge on large portions of this exquisite dish, it is traditionally served as an appetizer or as a small garnish. Because of its sensitive nature, the eggs must be immediately refrigerated after being prepared.
Although the highest quality fish roe is said to be found in fish from the Caspian Sea, the oldest and most renowned caviar fisheries date back as long as the 1800's and are located in none other than Russia. The first record of caviar was made all the way back in the 13th century. Despite the fact that the oldest fisheries are found in Russia, most believe that caviar originated in Turkey.
It is said that the finest caviar melts in your mouth like warm butter, but leaves you with the taste of the open sea. If you are preparing yourself to start this new adventure in the world of caviar, you must be warned, it is an expensive but addictive habit of the highest taste. But it is one I recommend all try to experience, since caviar is just about the finest culinary delicacy I could imagine.
